Prime Minister Edi Rama declared Thursday that no country owes the Diaspora as much as Albania. During his speech at the Third Summit of the Diaspora in Tirana, Rama said that the effort and belief that with the Diaspora, we can raise Albania and the Albanians, where they have never been, must be strengthened.

“How many are these stories and how much has changed the lives of all those Albanians who left in 1990 and faced extraordinary difficulties and a stamp on their foreheads as unwanted people. The lesson is, how much we can do when we are ready to follow our dream, and understand that if our countries where we have state or state-making power, have not reached where they should be today for a long, long time, it is about our ability, what we are able to do individually, to do collectively.

The connection with the Diaspora, the strengthening of this connection is the way to strengthen the joint effort and the belief that we can raise Albania and the Albanians where they have never been.

Do you know who made the first attempt at a diaspora strategy in 2000? It was done by Mark Gjonaj. The auspicious year of Skanderbeg would come when we also organized the first Diaspora summit, to have a strategy that was developed and completed as a comprehensive document in the activation of this, which still has a lot to give to this country.

It is very important that at this point we function as mechanisms that have a purpose and perform a function. 8 years is too little to build this bridge, but enough to judge how much potential this investment has and what unimaginable power can be unleashed further if we walk together in this direction. No country owes the diaspora as much as Albania.

I believe in the auspicious light of the 11th anniversary of independence, not only the conditions, but also the desires are ripe. I believe that 10 years ago, we would not have been able to say what we say today with our mouths full, Albanians have reason to ask for much more, but, like today, Albanians have never been before”, stressed PM Rama.
