The Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, at the joint media conference in Tirana, praised the diplomatic relations between the two countries, while saying that the connection between the peoples has deep roots in history.
“Very interesting place. I came to Albania with great desire. I’ve been at least 12 times if I’m not mistaken.
As for Albanians and Hungarians, we have not only diplomatic relations. But we have a very deep connections and it has deep roots in history”, said the Hungarian Prime Minister.
During the conference alongside his Albanian counterpart Edi Rama, Orban focused on the process of membership of the Western Balkans in the EU.
He emphasized that the EU is moving very slowly in the enlargement process and described this as a shameful act.
Today visit is in a very difficult period, as we are dealing with a restabilization and an economic redistribution that is affecting today’s Europe and these are the weak points of the economy of today’s Europe.
As for the global part, Europe’s competitiveness is on the decline, and the question is how we can consider the Western Balkans and especially their membership in Europe. Is it a problem or an opportunity?
Albania has made great progress, and we demand that Albania become a member.
It is shameful how slowly the EU enlargement process is proceeding.
Albania has endured 13 years to reach the beginning of negotiations for membership, if the EU goes at this pace, I can say that it is a suicidal pace, for this reason Hungary supports Albania, the integration of the Western Balkans not only for reasons of friendship between the two our countries, but also of the economic and political strategy”,stated Orban./ancmews.al
