Edi Rama, the head of the Albanian government, has given another interview to the Italian media regarding the agreement for the construction in Albania of two centers for housing migrants rescued at sea by Italian ships.
For the prestigious “Corriere della Sera”, Edi Rama said that the agreement with the Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will be ratified in the parliament and that Albania is not open to such agreements with other countries.
“Our laws on this point are clear: the agreement will be ratified by the Parliament in the following weeks,” said Rama.
When asked if only male immigrants will come to Albania, he stated that this was the interpretation of the news that those who conveyed the news in a “crooked” way.
“Those who conveyed to the media in a distorted way what Meloni said at the press conference, spoke of “men”. The prime minister underlined that minors and pregnant women do not belong to the categories of people who will be received at the reception center in Albania” – said Rama.
Asked if there have been requests from other EU countries, Rama said that he has rejected them, but only to the Italian government could not say no. “No. And we will not be ready for any request, just as we were not for similar requests before Italy asked us. To Rome, we could not say no because we have a debt of gratitude that we will never be able to repay, but that we must never forget,” he said.
Regarding the accusations of Sali Berisha, Rama said: “I never respond in a foreign language to the opposition in Albania, and I do not comment on the words of a politician like him, who was declared undesirable by the USA for “the serious corruption that involved his family and for undermining democracy” in our country. I don’t even comment in Albanian. Fortunately, Albanians know well what immigration is and hospitality towards those in need”.
