A tripartite memorandum was signed this Tuesday between Albania, Bulgaria and Northern Macedonia regarding Corridor 8. This is an important step of cooperation between the three countries, for one of the most important projects for the development of the Western Balkans
The Minister of Infrastructure Belinda Balluku in her speech emphasized that this memorandum is good news for all countries in the region and not only for the three of us who are participants. According to her, trilateral cooperation is important as a way to influence European financial investments in support of these projects.
“The signing of the memorandum in Sofia on sustainable transport in Corridor 8 is an important step in cooperation between Northern Macedonia, Albania and Bulgaria. We have long worked to complete all components of this corridor as one of the most important corridors for the development of the Western Balkans.
Now with all the projects we have started in the field of railways and roads, but without a doubt the new port of Durres, the project that includes these three countries will help in the steps of the future. Regarding this meeting we discussed the future and agreed that a common agenda for the promotion of the eighth corridor as an important economic development agenda not only for our countries but also other countries is a necessity.
We agreed on how together we can influence financial institutions to support projects, especially railways, as one of the most efficient modes of transport. “We will have another meeting in Northern Macedonia and then in Tirana to continue with the steps of this project,” she said.
