Many mayor candidates undergoing in-depth probe ahead of May 14 polls; CEC’s head

Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Ilirjan Celibashi, has underlined this Tuesday that 10 candidates for mayor and 28 for council members have been sent for more in-depth investigation ahead of the May 14 local elections.

In his speech, Celibashi informed that candidates who have been put under scrutiny are the ones for Kuçova, Mallakastra, Kruja, Devoll, Vau Dejës, Shijak, Himara, Kukës, Has and Devoll Municipality.

Meanwhile, he reiterated that for citizens whose Identity cards have expired or will expire until May 14, the deadline has been extended until May 31 so as to give everyone the opportunity to exercise their right to vote.

“There are 38 candidates that the Central Election Commission, based on what these candidates have declared and from the indications received from certain parties, we have requested an in-depth investigation by the prosecutor’s office.

There are 10 candidates out of 144 in total who have been sent for in-depth investigation. The candidates are from the Municipality, Kuçova, Mallakastër, Krujë, Devoll, Vau Dejës, Shijak, Himarë, Kukës, Has, Devoll, and there are 28 candidates for municipal council members 23 763 in total who have been sent for in-depth investigation.

According to its obligation, the CEC has made the candidates’ forms public and has made them public. “For an in-depth investigation, members of the municipal council have been sent to Mirdita, Shijak, Pukë, Gramsh, Kuçovo, Tirana, Shkodër, Kuçovo, Bulqizë, Dibër, Fushë Arrës, Vlorë,” said Celibashi.
