High Prosecutorial Council (HPC) has suspended this Monday from office the chief prosecutor of Kukes, Xhevahir Lita, arrested during the operation of the Special Prosecution against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK), codenamed “Metamorfoza”.
During the meeting called by Head of HPC, Alfred Balla, it was decided that Kukesi’s Prosecutor’s Office will be headed by the Deputy Director, Enkeleda Hoxha, until a new leader is elected.
“Today, on 31.07.2023, the High Prosecution Council was called to an urgent meeting by the Chairman of the Council, Mr. Balla.
The two decisions that were taken today are:
1. The suspension from office of the prosecutor Xhevahir Lita, head of the Prosecutor’s Office of the First Degree of the General Jurisdiction in Kukës.
2. The opening of the competition for managers in the Prosecutor’s Office of the First Degree of the General Jurisdiction in Kukes.
Until the election of a new leader, this Prosecutor’s Office will be headed by the Deputy Director, Enkeleda Hoxha”‘, informed the Council.
On Wednesday evening, the State Police and the Special Prosecution against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) conducted a mega-operation in several cities of the country, arresting a policeman, a businessman and the Head Prosecutor of Kukes.
In this operation, the businessman of Velipoja, Pëllumb Gjoka, the former operational director Olti Bisti, the head of the Kukes Prosecutor’s Office, Xhevahir Lita, were arrested, and many other people are suspected to have been arrested in connection with this operation.
Among other things, it is learned that this police action was carried out in the context of the destruction of a criminal gang that was suspected of operating among those arrested for drug trafficking.
Suspicions are in place that they were arrested under charges of abuse of office and organized criminal group.
