The Special Prosecutor’s Office completed the investigations for former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, his son-in-law Jamarbër Malltezi and businessman Fatmir Bektashi for the privatization of the former Partizani complex.
On Wednesday at 12:00 p.m., former prime minister Berisha was called to the SPAK to be officially recognized with the charge, while two hours later at 2:00 p.m. he will be officially recognized with the charge Jamarbër Malltezi.
SPAK started the investigation for Berisha with the charge of passive corruption, as there are doubts that he, in the capacity of the prime minister, issued illegal acts to help his son-in-law with the purpose of benefiting from the property in violation of the law. While Malltezi was investigated for active corruption and money laundering. against Malltez, the investigators also seized some assets that are suspected to have been created by criminal activity.
The former Prime Minister Berisha and his wife Liri Berisha, as well as the 2 children Argita and Shkëlzen Berisha, ended up under property investigation.
The former Prime Minister Sali Berisha has been kept in isolation since December 30 after the investigations started for the privatization of the former Partizani complex. Initially, the court of first instance set the mandatory appearance measure for Berisha, but he never implemented it, which forced the prosecution to toughen the measure by asking for house arrest, a request that was approved by the court.
