The Albanian Parliament in this plenary session this Wednesday is expected to dismiss President Ilir Meta. If the deputies will vote in favor of this dismissal, Meta could become the first president in Albanian history to be dismissed.
Today will be voted the report of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry, which has proposed the decision for the head of state. On the other hand, President Meta did not recognize this initiative of the majority, and even called it null and unconstitutional.
Meanwhile, the Socialist Party has described it as a necessity to “liberate the Presidency from a hostage situation”. According to the majority, this request did not come in order for the latter to appoint a name from the ranks of the presidency, where the head of the SP Parliamentary Group, Taulant Balla, said that the new name of the President will be in cooperation with the Constitution.
We recall that this is the second initiative through a second investigative commission that is set up to investigate constitutional violations for Ilir Meta within 2 years, where the majority demands his dismissal. The establishment of this Commission of Inquiry was not recognized by Meta himself, who through his spokesman said that “he will not tolerate any intimidation from the local and international mafia” and that this decision was unconstitutional and illegal.
Meanwhile, Meta, although summoned, refused to go to any meeting of the commission./abcnews.al
