The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, stated that the Diaspora has an irreplaceable role in the advancement of the national cause. Hasani gave the statement during his speech at the Third Diaspora Summit in Tirana.
According to him, the summit takes place at a moment when we Albanians, more than ever, have reason to feel good about what they have achieved.
“It is really a pleasure to welcome you to Tirana, so many, from every corner of the world. There is no clearer and more beautiful message of unity than this packed hall. How about this large gathering of Albanians from all over the Albanian space in the region, Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Presheva but also from all over the world.
This Summit comes at a moment when we Albanians, more than ever, have reason to feel good about what they have achieved. From Albania to Kosovo, from North Macedonia to Montenegro, from politics and diplomacy to art and sports, never before have Albanians enjoyed a better name and reputation than today.
But this is also a moment of unprecedented challenges. We live in a much more uncertain world today than a decade ago.
Our region faces more uncertainty today than at any other time in the last 2 decades. In this context of global uncertainty, we Albanians have been able to consolidate our role as guarantors of the Euro-Atlantic orientation of the region. We also knew how to promote in the eyes of the whole world a model of coexistence and dialogue, hospitality and tolerance that has made Albanians gain the respect and admiration of allies, friends and partners.
The truth is that without the diaspora, many things in our history would have been very different.
Therefore, this Summit is not just a symbolic moment of union. This Summit is above all a moment to jointly explore ideas and concrete forms of cooperation.
The challenge before us is how to translate into concrete projects and initiatives all that desire and passion for the nation that unites us.
For this reason, we have organized several thematic discussion panels, to arrive together at those ideas and those initiatives that we would like to implement, either in terms of strengthening the relations between the diaspora and the mother country and preserving the linguistic identity and cultural, whether in terms of the economic, social, cultural dimension and so on.
I don’t want to take more time, but I want to close my speech with a promise, that the network of representative offices of the Republic of Albania will always and everywhere be the outstretched hand of the Albanian state to the diaspora. We will be the eyes and ears of the Albanian state, our door is open to every man and woman, young and old in the diaspora, who will work and contribute to the progress of Albanian affairs”, he emphasized.
