Greeks reburied the remains of soldiers in Këlcyra Gorge

The ritual of reburial of the bones in the cemetery of the Greek soldiers in the Monastery of the Gorge of Kelcyra continues. It was the remains of 37 Greek soldiers who fell in the Italo-Greek war in the period 1940-1941 which were reburied in this cemetery where the remains of over 700 Hellenic soldiers are buried. The ceremony was held away from the eyes of the media.

The highest representatives of the Orthodox clergy of the Metropolitan of Gjirokastra were present at this ceremony. The participation of the Greek Consul of Gjirokastra Dimitris Saharidis, Secretary of Political Affairs at the Greek Embassy in Tirana, Valis Pendervanis, the Prefect of Western Macedonia George Kasapidis, Admiral Dhimitrios Milas who is from the committee of Albanian-Greek experts for the exhumation of Greeks, as well as officers of the Greek Army.

The reburial of the remains of 37 Greek soldiers will be followed by the reburial of other bones when the expansion of the current cemetery plot on its eastern side is undertaken as there is no possibility for other reburials, be they murals.
