Greek Minister of Citizen Protection, Giannis Ikonomu has held a meeting this Friday with the elected but non-sworn mayor of Himara Municipality, Fredi Beleri.
A day after participating in the Summit of Interior Ministers of the Berlin initiative countries that was held in Tirana, this morning Ikonomu arrived at the IEVP Durrës, to meet Beleri.
Case against Fredi Beleri has already passed for trial, with the decision of the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime. Fredi Beleri was arrested in the act two days before the local elections and continues to be held in prison even after he won the race on May 14, under the charge of electoral corruption.
Unable to take the oath as mayor, Beleri accused Prime Minister Rama as the person responsible for preventing the granting of a special permit for him to take the oath.
According to Beleri, there is no court decision that overturned his request, as this would translate into a severe restriction of constitutional rights. Prime Minister Rama has repeatedly stated that the Beleri case belongs only to justice.
During the National Assembly of the Socialist Party (SP), he said that there is nothing to discuss with the Greek side regarding this issue because the Greek side does not listen to any comments but only insists, contradicting the Albanian laws.
