The relatives of the victims of the explosion in Gërdec have requested the acceleration of the process that is being developed against the former Minister of Defense Fatmir Mediu. With a request addressed to the Special Court, the Durdaj family claims that the process is being delayed due to the load of cases that Judge Irena Gjoka is dealing with.

In this request, it is emphasized that 35 court sessions were held in 16 months, and in order not to create more delays, they suggest that the judge of the case, Irena Gjoka, should not be charged with other cases until the end of the process.

While another request filed in SPAK, the Durdaj family who lost their 7-year-old son, requests that the former Minister of Defense Fatmir Mediu be assigned a security measure, banning him from leaving the country.

The family members argue that in the event of a conviction, like many other officials, Mediu may evade justice and, on the other hand, may influence the witnesses who are questioned abroad as part of this trial.

In this process, the former Minister of Defense, Fatmir Mediu, is accused of abuse of office, in the tragedy of Gërdec on March 15, 2008, where 26 people lost their lives and hundreds of others were injured. /abcnews.al
