Special Court is expected to decide this Thursday on the request of the Special Prosecution against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) to review the security measure “house arrest” for former Prime Minister Sali Berisha.
Just a day ago, the Anticorruption Court could not comment on the proposal of SPAK that will put former Prime Minister Sali Berisha under house arrest and judge Irena Gjoka decided to think until Thursday when she will come out with a verdict.
Until today at 15:00, the time is counting down even for the former prime minister who is suspected of corruption and equally valid for his 2 defenders, who have not revealed their next moves.
But time was not precious only for Sali Berisha’s lawyers who, in a previous session, requested an additional deadline to familiarize themselves with the evidence. But time is precious even for the judge who asked for additional time to come up with a decision on the request of SPAK, which has hardened its position and insists on house arrest for the former prime minister.
In a three-hour process, after another panel dismissed the defense’s request for exclusion from the case of Irena Gjoka, the same request was submitted again. But this time the lawyers found the reason for the refusal of the judge to hold a public trial
“We continued with the trial, we asked the court to take it to the Constitutional Court, which left the case unjudged. With the authorization of Rama, the trial continued, for all these violations and rejection of requests. This exemption request will also be dismissed. The law says that when a request for exemption is filed, the Court cannot give judgment. These will all crash, so let’s move on. We presented the arguments to the court”, said Gjokutaj.
Berisha’s lawyers insisted that there are no circumstances for SPAK to toughen its stance.
Although the defense did not spare the criticism of the court and SPAK did not have a prediction of what decision the court may come up with on Thursday.
If the court approves the house arrest, the new measure is executed within a day after an order that SPAK delegates to the police./abcnews.al
