President Ilir Meta has criticized the decision of the Bureau of the Assembly that journalists and television cameras be no longer allowed in the premises of parliamentary committees.

In a post, Meta described as punishable, unacceptable and anti-democratic this decision, as he calls it one-party Assembly.

Meta says he supports the concern of journalists, while calling on the Assembly and the majority to abandon this decision. “I call on the monist Assembly and the majority to immediately withdraw from these practices similar to the Lukashenko regime, which are seriously undermining the country’s European integration,” Meta said, among other things.

“It is precisely the current Assembly that in the history of pluralist parliamentary has taken the most scandalous decisions to suppress free speech, including the approval and non-withdrawal of the anti-constitutional package “Anti-defamation” for almost a year, in open rejection of the recommendations of the Venice Commission.

Supporting the righteous concern of the community of Albanian independent journalists and their foreign colleagues over Albania’s regression in relation to media freedom, I call on the monist Assembly and the majority to immediately withdraw from these practices similar to the Lukashenko regime , which are seriously undermining the country’s European integration./abcnews.al
