The Democratic Party today submitted to the Assembly amendments to the Constitutional amendments. Specifically, the PD amendments to the Constitutional Amendments have focused on electoral reform, territorial reform and the vetting of politicians.
The leader of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha in a press conference spoke about these three amendments to the Constitutional changes proposed by the Democratic Party. According to Basha, these amendments aim at getting Albania back on track. Basha has argued that power should now be returned to the citizens.
“The Democratic Party has officially submitted to the Assembly the constitutional amendments regarding 3 absolute priorities to get Albanians out of depression and crisis. These 3 main issues are related to: Electoral Reform including all its aspects. To organize through free elections the first step out of the crisis is the return of Albania to the rails of legitimacy. The amendments concern the reversal of the unilateral changes of July 30 and the filing of a request for the election commission to start work as soon as possible for the electoral reform with all its components to start an hour earlier.
The next amendment concerns the catastrophe that Albanians are experiencing due to what the CoE considers a total failure, the so-called territorial reform, a government already destroyed and replaced by 61 bayraktars who rob the government of nearly 120 million Euros more than they cost 300 or so employees before 2015. We have introduced our amendment that provides for urban and rural municipalities. It is important that the local government gets closer to the citizens.
The third proposal and the one that is the most detailed in this submission of the draft law has to do with the Vetting of politicians. Coincidentally yesterday I saw some headlines in the media that say the Vetting of politicians is back.
We recall that today the Prime Minister Edi Rama emphasized today that the Socialist Party is ready to listen to the proposals of the Democratic Party. Among other things, Rama categorically ruled out the possibility of negotiations by internationals to sit at the table with the DP./abcnews.al
