Details from this Tuesday’s meeting of President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj with his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron have been revealed. This visit is a historic event in the relations between our two countries, as it is the first official visit of a French President to Albania.
During the face-to-face meeting, President Begaj underlined that this visit demonstrates the common interest in strengthening bilateral relations, as well as in the direction of peace, security, and development of the Western Balkans region.
Albania’s European integration and developments in the region were part of the talks with President Macron.
President Begaj expressed his gratitude for the support that France and President Macron have given and are giving to the process of expansion and European integration of Albania and other countries of the Western Balkans region through the Berlin Process.
He also praised the initiative undertaken a year ago by President Macron, for the launch of the European Political Community, as an initiative that gives more opportunities to Albania and other candidate countries in the European Union, to have more access to EU projects- of, especially in the field of university and student exchanges.
Furthermore, President Begaj thanked Macron for his contribution to supporting the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, especially through the so-called Franco-German plan, underlining the need for further support for this dialogue, but also for the need to punish and discourage acts of violence and provocations in the municipalities of North Kosovo.
“Kosovo is a sovereign and independent country, and terrorist acts like that of Banjska in Zveçan (September 24, 2023) are unacceptable and reprehensible for its security, but also for the region and the entire European continent.”
President Begaj estimated that five years after the signing of the Declaration of Strategic Partnership between the two countries, relations between Albania and France have entered a new and very dynamic phase.
Begaj expressed his satisfaction that beyond the consolidated cultural relations between the two countries, the great interest of French companies, especially in the field of renewable energy, but not only, is taking relations to another, even higher level.
“I am confident that the projects of the photovoltaic parks in Karavasta and Spitalle will be followed by other large projects from French investors”, said President Begaj in a message distributed to the media.
