The Albanian government today signed a Financing Agreement to Support the energy sector with the French Development Agency. During a ceremony held at the Prime Minister’s Office, the agreement was signed by the Minister of Finance, Delina Ibrahimaj and the ADF Regional Director for Euro-Asia, Cecile Couprie.

“It is a loan that we aim to support the reform of the energy sector in Albania. This is a special moment that has been decided with the Albanian authorities to support the energy sector. This event carries a special meaning for the French development agency because it is the first agreement signed in Albania since the opening of the office in Tirana.

We will have other agreements in the future, the second phase of the reform will be accompanied by a second loan of 50 million euros. We aim to accelerate Albania’s integration into the EU. We want to congratulate the government for the initiatives taken in this context. Today’s program is a very strong illustration of government commitment. In the situation when Albania is affected by the energy crisis, this program takes on greater importance “, said Couprie.

Participants in the meeting were also Deputy Prime Minister Arben Ahmetaj and the French Ambassador in Tirana. After the signing, Ahmetaj in a statement to the media said that the agreement comes at an important moment.

“The agreement we signed today comes at an important moment for the first sector and the energy crisis that has affected the world,” said Ahmetaj, among other things.

“The program we are supporting is an example of Franco-Albanian cooperation. The creation of a transparent energy market is taken within the framework of Albania’s European perspective”, added the French ambassador.
