Central Election Commission sent the SP candidate in Mallakastër, Qerim Ismailaj, to the General Prosecutor’s Office for investagion.
After listening to the parties at today’s meeting of the CEC, Celibashi stated that there is no prohibition for Ismailaj from the point of view of the law to be a candidate for mayor in the May 14 elections, but given that the candidate himself answered “Yes” in the decriminalization form if has been under investigation or trial in another state, it is the case to resend it for in-depth investigation to the Prosecutor’s Office, if it is about the same cases that have been assessed before.
“The only law that tells us if a person is convicted is the criminal code. The law on decriminalization informs us, that is, it evaluates what the criminal code has produced, it does not in itself decide on the qualities of a person based on his criminal records, to run or not.
In the specific case, the subject is not sentenced, not even on probation, it’s the legislator’s choice in this case why he created this advantage, but it is so.
