The letter, signed by Lindita Nikolla, was sent to the Special Prosecutor’s Office after the vote on Thursday morning with 75 votes in favor to remove the MP’s immunity and pave the way for his arrest.
A day ago, the two reports compiled by the members of the Mandates Council were submitted to the Assembly, who voted in support of SPAK’s request to pave the way for the arrest of Sali Berisha.
Both reports, both of the majority and the opposition, recommended to the Assembly the granting of authorization to the request of SPAK, which requires the removal of Berisha’s immunity and then his arrest.
Both SP and DP argued that the accusations against Berisha are not political. In his long report, Enkelejd Alibeaj dwells on the facts that SPAK presented to Berisha, mentioning that the former prime minister is accused of changing some laws to favor the son-in-law in the privatization of the former Partizani complex.
Sali Berisha is accused by SPAK of having made legal changes for the benefit of his son-in-law Jamarbër Malltezi, thus committing the criminal offense of active corruption of high officials, a criminal offense punishable by up to 12 years in prison.
