For Sali Berisha, the Democratic Party’s historic mistake was made on April 27, 2021 by its former leader, Lulzim Basha. Berisha says that Basha should have called the protests that very day for the overthrow of Edi Rama, who had just confirmed his third mandate, while the Democrats call him illegitimate and stolen.
In a conversation with the citizens on Facebook, Berisha emphasized that Basha was taken hostage by Edi Rama and put DP in a destructive spiral.
“The popular revolt against this regime that has no legitimacy is the main way to bring it to its knees. The most unforgivable historical mistake of the Democratic Party was made on April 27, 2021, when after those massively violated elections, its leader and leadership did not call protests for the overthrow of Edi Rama, but entered after being taken hostage by Edi Rama, entered the DP in a destructive spiral, from which it took a long time to get out”, he said.
According to the former prime minister, DP cannot solve other problems, after solving the one with Rama.
“Today the courts are a branch of the executive. The DP’s problem is Edi Rama and without solving the problem with Edi Rama, it cannot solve other problems.Therefore, we have decided to turn this autumn into the spring of big protests”, he said.
Berisha extended an open invitation to the deputies who have not joined. “DP MPs are invited to unite and give up the ugly tools that Lulzim Basha has placed on them. I invite them with an open heart. The whole of Albania is watching them, where they, without any party mandate, become an appendage of the DP parliamentary group. If until yesterday they were not convinced that Basha was Edi Rama’s hostage, I believe that today there is no Albanian who does not understand that Basha was taken hostage for the Russian file. I welcome any of them to join the group”, said the former prime minister.
