The President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj held a meeting in Zagreb with his Croatian counterpart, Zoran Milanovic, this Thursday.
During a joint press conference, Begaj said that further strengthening of bilateral cooperation, Albania’s European integration agenda as well as regional developments were some of the issues they discussed.
Begaj appreciated the diplomatic relations with Croatia as excellent, but as far as the economy is concerned, he said that more can be done and added that it is time to have a direct airline between the two countries or a connection between the ports of the two countries.
“I had the pleasure for having a long, special and friendly conversation with Milanovic, where the main focus was the further strengthening of bilateral cooperation, Albania’s European integration agenda and regional developments. We shared common views that Albanian-Croatian relations are at their best today. We shared the conviction that despite the excellent level of political relations, the trend of increasing trade economic relations, there is still much to be done in terms of economic cooperation between the two countries.
For a better connection between the two countries with a direct impact in the field of tourism, we have the same opinion that has come the time to have a direct airline between the two countries or a connection between the ports of the two countries.
I appreciated that in the historical relations between the two countries, the Albanian diaspora in Croatia, the old diaspora and the new diaspora, has also preserved a role.
Our conversation also focused on regional cooperation, within the European integration of Albania. I estimated that Croatia can serve as a good example for Albania and other countries in the region. I expressed my gratitude for the special help that Croatia has given and is giving to Albania for European integration”, he emphasized.
