The President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, during his stay in Estonia, held special meetings with the Prime Minister, Mr. Kristen Michal, the Speaker of the Parliament, Mr. Lauri Hussar, and with other authorities, with whom he talked about increasing bilateral cooperation and strengthening the alliance as countries aligned on the right side of history in facing common challenges to guarantee security, peace and development.
This visit to Estonia, as President Begaj expressed during the conversation with Prime Minister Kristen Michal, has been very fruitful and evidence of Albania’s full commitment to strengthen relations between the two countries.
President Begaj emphasized the fact that the geographical distance between Albania and Estonia does not constitute any obstacle for countries that protect international law and law, and does not inhibit the strengthening of economic cooperation, the growth of investments and tourism. ”
Let’s strengthen our friendship by expanding the paths of economic cooperation and supporting each other in the common challenges we face”, – emphasized President Begaj during the conversation with Prime Minister Kristen Michal, whom he thanked for helping Albania after the cyber-attack of 2022 and assistance for administrative reforms.
While appreciating the friendship between the two peoples, the Head of State brought to attention some shared historical moments of Estonia under the Soviet occupation and the communist past of Albania which, according to President Begaj, has suffered like no other under the occupation of this ideology. Focusing on Albania-Estonia relations over the years, the President of the Republic thanked Prime Minister Michal for his support in the process of Albania’s full membership in the EU and for his role as a “strong advocate for the expansion of the Union with the Western Balkans.
The President of the Republic reiterated the position that the European Union at this moment has a strategic need to expand in the Western Balkans in the face of the risk of the influence of third actors in the region.
Albania, he emphasized has confirmed its unwavering loyalty to Euro-Atlantic policies and has recently proved this by supporting Ukraine in any form: Meanwhile, in the meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament, Mr. Hussar, and the Chairman of the Estonian-Albanian Friendship Parliamentary Group, Mr. Eerik-Niiles Kross, the need to increase cooperation through parliamentary groups was emphasized.
A special reception was reserved for the Head of State of Albania by the Mayor of the capital Tallinn, Mr. Jevgeni Ossinovski, as well as Urmas Klaas, Mayor of Tartu. During his stay in Estonia, the President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, visited the most important centers of information technology and cybernetics in Tallinn, as well as the University of Tartu at the Defense College of the Baltic States.
