Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Belinda Balluku has held this Friday the opening speech of the meeting of the Prime Minister Edi Rama with the mayors, where the main topic was “water supply enterprises”.
During her speech, Minister Balluku criticized mismanagement in all cities of the country, with the partial exclusion of Korça and Pogradec. She even said it was surprising that investments had increased, but at the same time losses had increased.
Among other things, the Minister of Infrastructure complained about the fact that, according to her, a large percentage of water supplies did not provide water for more than 10 hours a day.
“I have addressed to the Prime Minister the performance of this sector which leaves much to be desired and I cannot exclude any of the counties.
Leaving aside Korca and Pogradec, I am returning to other communities. What we have found today after the analysis made, again the performance of water supply and sewerage in all municipalities remains poor. The figures you have, too, do not match the investment figures in your enterprises. Today a high percentage does not supply water more than 10 hours a day.
In those water supply systems where we have invested we have also had increases in losses or unpaid water, and this amount is stolen in the network or lost for technical reasons. We have the right to think that there is mismanagement here.
. These are facts not opinions. We do not see how in the future water utilities will meet these obligations. 39 % of enterprises do not meet the conditions to argue their existence.
I have shared all the concerns we have with donors. The time has come for mayors to address this issue differently”, highlighted Balluku.
