Court of Appeal in Athens will decide this Wednesday on the fate of Lushnja gang’s head, Laert Haxhia. Albania has demaded his extradition, as he was sentenced to 18 years in prison by the Court of Lushnja for murder in other qualifying circumstances remaining pending.
He is also in the judicial process in the Special Court for the Lushnja massacre. Recently, Haxhia is also accused by the prosecutor’s office of Elbasan, for at least 6 murders that occurred during the years 2021-2022.
However, Laert Haxhia is represented in Athens by the Albanian lawyer Detar Hysi and two Greek lawyers who earlier defended the legal interests of Bledar Jambelli, accused of being the author of the murder of Artan Cuku.
The court session will take place at 14:00 Greek time, where there is a high interest from the Albanian side. Two months ago, the Court of Ioannina refused to extradite Haxhiu, not accepting the request of the Albanian counterparts.
Earlier on, decision of the first instance was appealed, while a final decision is expected this Wednesday.
