Democrat leader Lulzim Basha has stated that the country is facing two challenges, the political and constitutional crisis as well as the economic challenge which has caused 65,000 people to lose their lives.

During an online meeting on the legal and economic situation in Albania, attended by representatives from the USA, France and Albania, he said the solution is the restoration of democratic institutions through free and fair elections.

“I want to thank the United States for providing tests of Covid-19. I want to emphasize two challenges that we are facing in Albania.

The first challenge is the political and constitutional crisis. This crisis since the 2017 elections.

Second comes the economic challenge.

In Albania there are 10 times more unemployed  than Northern Macedonia, stated Basha.

The leader of the Republican Party, Fatmir Mediu, stressed out  during his speech that the lack of the Constitutional Court and the Supreme Court has increased corruption, government abuse and the violation of citizens’ rights.

He said the pandemic had increase control over citizens and to the economy.

David Phillips who is currently Director of the Program on Peace-building and Rights at Columbia University’s Institute for the Study of Human Rights  says Covid-19 has been used as a way to restrict social freedoms. He said the DP has made contributions that should be welcomed by the government.

Philips stressed out that the 15 conditions set by the EU clearly show how far Albania is from democratic standards and European values, describing organized crime, corruption and manipulation of the electoral process.

Lawyer Jordan Daci stated that the rule of law exists in Albania because the balance of power is lacking, bringing to attention the movement of the majority to no longer propose draft laws in parliament, but leads to ready normative acts.

Many normative acts of the government  have been approved weeks before they were published for the public “, declared Daci./abcnews.al
