Prime Minister Edi Rama warned today in the Assembly that within the next year the government will send into space 2 satellites “Albania” and “Albania 2”. This statement was followed by laughter in the ranks of the opposition, but the head of government echoed his word.

But how many satellites are there in space today?

The top 10 countries that are dominating the satellite industry are the US, China, Russia, the UK, Japan, India, the European Space Agency, Canada, Germany and Luxembourg. There are an estimated 7941 satellites, most of which belong to the USA. Turkey is one of the 30 countries that owns satellites. Six of them are active, three communication satellites and three observation satellites

Three-quarters of the satellites orbit in low orbit between 500 and 2000 km altitude and are mainly used for telecommunication systems, terrestrial imaging or meteorology.

According to the Association of Scientists, the first satellite is the American Amsat Oscar-7 (AO-7) launched into space on November 15, 1974. The number of satellites has increased in recent years, namely 378 satellites in 2017 and 375 satellites in 2018./abcnews.al
