The former mayor of Durrës, Vangjush Dako, appears today before the Special Court.
The session will take place at 10:00, where the security measure will be introduced. Along with Dako, several other officials of the Municipality as well as a builder were arrested, while three others were left under house arrest.
Dako is accused of two cases of abuse of duty. The first case concerns an 11-story building that was damaged by the earthquake in 2019. There were several families who filed a complaint with SPAK claiming that the building built in 2012 by Fiqiri Farruku suffered irreparable damage.
According to the investigations, although the municipality approved the permit for the construction of 7 floors in 2010, the builder submitted a second request to approve 4 more additional floors. Although for this second application the Municipality of Durres did not approve the permit, the works with 4 additional floors were completed in 2012.
The second case concerns a tender for the purchase of the project for the development of the coastline in the city of Durrës, which caused a damage to the state budget of 180 million lek. According to the Special Anticorruption Structure.
This amount of money has been unfairly benefited by the design company. Journalist Ermal Vija reports that the police are conducting checks for the wanted persons.
