Albania is determined to follow the principle of “Open Door Policy” for all regional initiatives, as an opportunity to increase interaction between all Western Balkan countries. This position was confirmed by the Minister of Defense Niko Peleshi at the Ministry of Defense of South-Eastern Europe held in Skopje, Northern Macedonia.
Minister Peleshi emphasized Albania’s support for the SEDM initiative and for the South East Europe Brigade (SEEBRIG), whose command is expected to be taken over by Albania in 2023.
The Minister of Defense said that “regional initiatives are an excellent opportunity to increase interaction between the countries of our region and offer the opportunity to address at common tables the challenges we face in the field of security and defense.
” During the ministerial, the Minister of Defense Niko Peleshi emphasized the firm position in favor of the principle of “Open Door Policy” for all regional initiatives and not only SEDM, which should include all Western Balkan countries, as of course Kosovo is .
This meeting, which meets the Ministers of Defense, takes place once a year and is a very good opportunity to analyze the achievements, evaluate the joint plans and projects for the future of the oldest politico-military initiative of our region, such as SEDM.
