Prime Minister Edi Rama stated in the meeting with the mayors for the analysis of the performance of the Water Supply, that the champion for misuse of funds and mismanagement is the municipality of Vlora, thus shooting the mayor Dritan Leli. Rama said that the municipality of Vlora has registered 78.9% loss in this sector, the highest figure in the ranks of other municipalities. He said that as the government increases investment, municipalities increase losses in the sector.
“In the line between us are those who have accompanied this investment process in the water supply. Here I have a table for the investments made by the Albanian government from 2014 and currently placed until 2013 where the state budget funds and the funds allocated by the partners are included, which I remind you are loans that must be repaid. The amount is over 1 billion Euros. To be precise, the above is actually 1 billion and about 200 million Euros. Here I have three questions for you as mayors.
Are you aware of the performance of the water supply and sewerage in your municipality of the service they provide to the citizens? Have you ever seen that it is beyond any logic? And the third question, how much funds have you allocated from the municipal budget for water supply. They speak for themselves and the last fact that was like the point that overturned this cup is the fact that we increase investments, you increase losses and then the citizens rightly complain.
Increased investment cannot be translated into increased losses. It must be matched by a reduction of losses and a sense of responsibility for that pit that has been dug right in the heart of this state by water mismanagement for 30 years that cannot be closed immediately but at the level of administration is not showing signs that it does not tend to expand.
