The trial of a criminal group consisting of Albanians and Nigerians in Italy, who are accused of flooding the neighboring country with drugs, has begun. Yesterday at the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Rome, we were presented with factual documents with photos related to drug trafficking that the network of Albanians had committed. Meanwhile, the Italian Prosecution states that the Albanians had made agreements with Nigerian criminal groups to bring the drugs to the shores of Italy and then to distribute them in Rome, Brescia, Parma, Isernia and Naples.
Yesterday in the courtroom were the first 29 defendants who faced the charges. Nine of them chose to face an ordinary trial, the other 20 chose summary trial agreements. This is the first group that is being tried after the action of the Italian police last March, codenamed “Tibus”. This operation led to the handcuffing of 55 people, namely 27 Albanians, 23 Nigerians, 4 Italians and 1 Gambian.
The investigation originates from the Tibus bus station, the bus terminal of the Tiburtina station which is described by the Italian media as the “nerve center” of drug transport. “The investigation documents show cooperation between the Albanian clan of Vlora and Nigerian groups” – say the prosecutors in the arrest warrant. / abcnews.al
