Today, in the premises of COD in the Prime Minister was announced the auction for the establishment of wind farms in the country. This important step marks the opening of another chapter in the diversification of renewable energy sources, along with photovoltaic parks, which aim to turn our country into a net exporter of electricity in the region.
With the support of the Swiss Embassy, a study has been conducted that identifies the areas with the highest feasibility for wind production in the country, which occupy 20% of the country and start from an altitude of 150 meters above sea level, as well as all protected areas where wind farms cannot be built.
During his speech, Prime Minister Edi Rama said that Albania will be a more alternative for energy production using wind.
“We have entered the phase of an important transformation of our electricity system by thinking, designing and realizing the diversification of electricity sources. Of course, the dependence on the weather is an addiction which joins us with fellow travelers on this road, as a result of production focused mainly on the use of water power.
Both together form a new power added to our system that also adds to the rational use of wind energy sources. It would not be easily achievable by the standards. The undeniable successes of previous auctions have made Albania today in this field a destination of interest for the biggest energy names in the world.
We are climbing to the top that Albanians deserve and we can achieve thanks to the wise and professional use of these rich natural resources,” said Rama./abcnews.al
