SPAK has started the investigation regarding the interceptions of the Italian anti-mafia for Ndrangheta, which mentions some contacts with important politicians in Albania, such as President Meta, Mayor Veliaj, a minister, a deputy minister, the head of the Tirana Police, etc.
SPAK announces that criminal proceedings have been registered for the criminal offenses “Passive corruption of persons exercising public functions”, “Structured criminal group”, “Laundering of proceeds of crime or criminal activity” committed within a structured criminal group and “Committing criminal offenses by a criminal organization and a structured criminal group.”
According to SPAK, the registration of this criminal proceeding was made on the basis of several articles published in various media, in connection with the investigations carried out by the Anti-Mafia Prosecution of Catanzaro in the Republic of Italy, which cast doubt on the involvement of Albanian citizens and foreigners, in criminal activities in the Republic of Albania.
It is learned that today at the headquarters of the National Directorate of Anti-Mafia and Anti-Terrorism in Rome, a coordination meeting was held regarding the issue in question.
The meeting was hosted by Mr. Federico Cafiero de Raho, Head of the National Prosecutor’s Office Antimafia and Counter-Terrorism, Italy and Mr. Arben Kraja, Head of the Special Prosecutor’s Office, Albania, with the participation of Italian and Albanian prosecutors investigating these two criminal proceedings in the states respective.
During the wiretaps against Ndrangheta members, the Katanzaro prosecution revealed that they were talking about business in Albania as well, which they would carry out through the bribery of large amount of money of important politicians and other second-rate leaders in Albania.
In the wiretaps, it is notie that they can enter the market for the construction of skyscrapers in Tirana by giving 20% bribes to local officials, while they talk openly about the corruption of the Tirana Police Chief in order to leave them comfortable to work.
During the operation carried out by the Italian anti-mafia, 36 people were arrested, as members of Ndrangheta, among them some Albanians, who had registered in their names the businesses that were in fact Ndrangheta. /abcnews.al
