Gent Cakaj has officially handed over the duty as Foreign Minister to Olta Xhaçka on Tuesday in a conference also attended by Prime Minister Edi Rama.
In his word, Cakaj thanked the head of the government for the support as he stressed that without him nothing would have been possible.
According to Cakaj, the pandemic reeled the work of diplomacy and as a result he had to work in very difficult circumstances.
“I feel a moral obligation to thank the Prime Minister for his support… The pandemic has also affected the work of diplomacy. We worked in very difficult circumstances,” Cakaj said.
Meanwhile, the newly appointed Minister, Olta Xhaçka, said that this new task is a challenge to her and she further promised to improve consular services for the Albanian people.
“I will immediately set up a working group with more experienced ambassadors to outline a series of steps to reform our diplomatic services and invite you to share your ideas,” she concluded.
On Monday Albanian lawmakers voted in favor of the recent government reshuffle, respectively the appointment of Olta Xhaçka and Niko Peleshi./abcnews.al
