President of the Republic, Ilir Meta has welcomed the united opposition’s formalization of their proposals regarding the Electoral Code, which were submitted on Sunday at the Political Council.
Considering this step of the united opposition as determination to build consensus, the President, on the other hand, slammed the ruling majority, underlining it insists on conflict, elections distortion, and annihilation of the Political Council as a consensual decision-making instrument.
In addition, the Head of State stated that the opposition has taken every step that leads to Albania’s European integration process where electoral reform, its implementation, and the investigation of electoral crime are the key conditions that determine the opening of membership negotiations.
Meanwhile, President Meta urges the ruling majority to reflect, saying that any unilateral act that overturns the 5th June Agreement would be an intolerable provocation to the constitutional and democratic order and the European future of the country.
“I welcome the formalization of the proposals of the United Opposition in the Political Council yesterday.
The opposition is determined to build consensus as opposed to the ‘Renaissance’, which insists on conflict, election distortion, and the annihilation of the Political Council as a consensual decision-making instrument.
The draft presented by the Opposition realizes the opening of the lists 100% and the full respect of gender equality, despite the deception and closure of 100% of the lists by ‘Rennaissance’.
The opposition draft respects the consensus reached and the 5th June Agreement. It seeks the opinion of the ODIHR on matters of disagreement, as an impartial party and as official election observers.
