The lack of western tourists during July has ruined tourism in Albania. Vice Chairman at Albanian Tour Operators Association Kliton Gërxhani states that even though the country is at the peak of the season, there is only 20% of the total number of tourists that was predicted in normal time.
“The situation is very serious. “This was the peak of the season, but there are no tourists from Europe and we do not have a plan of measures such as the one that operates in Montenegro,” stated Gërxhani.
Last year, the Albanian economy benefited 2 billion euros only from the tourism sector while this year the profits are expected to be only 20% of this amount or only 400 million euros.
Tour operators are appealing to the government to take emergency measures to help this sector. Currently the southern of Albania remains one of the most frequented areas from Albanian people and from albanians of Kosovo./abcnews.al
