The Minister of Justice, Etilda Gjonaj, informs about the normative act for bringing home the 600 convicts for 3 months in implementation of the plan against coronavirus.
Gjonaj has made public the measures taken in prisons for the situation against COVID-19, with the addition of hygiene conditions canceling meetings with family members online.
Minister Gjonaj said that so far there are no prisoners affected with COVID-19, but that the institutions are ready for any situation.
On the proposal of the Ministry of Justice, the government adopted the normative act to quarantine in their homes for 3 months all persons left to serve the sentence up to 3 years imprisonment.
Also those who are up to 5 years in prison but must be over 60 years old and suffering from chronic illnesses certified by relevant health documents.
All the convicts who receive benefits must be subject to strict legal rules, as well as the consent of their family members to stay in the same accommodation during their temporary stay.
About 600 are the total number of prisoners expected to leave their cells as beneficiaries of this normative act, which takes effect today./abcnews.al
