Prime Minister Edi Rama, in the opening speech of the summit between the EU and the Western Balkans on the new growth plan, emphasized that the union must find new ways to help the region.

He emphasized that the necessary steps must be taken to join the union, otherwise we will fail.

The head of government also commented on the problems between countries in the region, as he said that bilateral issues should be resolved through dialogue.

“I am thankful to the president of the EC, to Varhelyi for their willingness to listen to our concerns, regarding why the EU should find new ways to help us on our journey.

It is clear that the new opportunity that this plan represents is not only part of our decade-long efforts for a common future but challenges us to prove our readiness for the common European destiny. Opportunities can be taken or lost, we must commit ourselves without any reservation, hesitation, or limitations or constraints but to take advantage of this opportunity.

I admit that unlike Albania, some countries in the region are faced with complex issues between them, however, I call for them to be put aside.

10 years ago, the leaders of the six Western Balkans met in Berlin, the objective was not to deal with the wounds of the past but to capture the future that requires our cooperation as a basic condition for EU membership. Today, this condition is not only a principle of good behavior but a criterion to evaluate the maturity of our countries through the growth plan.
