General Director of the State Police, Muhamet Rrumbullaku, continues the meetings with representatives of international law enforcement authorities and police leaders of different countries, with the aim of creating new bridges of cooperation, for the exchange of information that serves to combat criminal activities, in especially the international trafficking of narcotics, as well as the capture of citizens on international wanted.
Rrumbullaku held the next meeting with the head of the Colombian National Police delegation, Brigadier General Jorge Antonio Urquijo Sandoval.
Purpose of the meeting was to establish direct contacts between the Albanian and Colombian Police, with the aim of exchanging information on individuals or criminal organizations of international drug trafficking, Albanian citizens or foreigners, who carry out activities in the territory of Albania or in other countries, who are related to Albanian groups operating in Albania.
During the meeting, the General Director of Police informed the Colombian delegation about the situation of trafficking of hard drugs to and through Albania, underlining the active role, in some cases leading, of Albanian citizens who operate in Albania and Colombia.
Also, he informed his Colombian colleagues about the operations of recent years, which have led to the seizure of hundreds of kg of cocaine, originating from Colombia, Ecuador or Peru.
In order to formalize the cooperation between the State Police and the Colombian one, the General Director of Police proposed to the Colombian delegation, the negotiation and signing of a police cooperation agreement, which would provide the appropriate legal framework for the exchange of information in real time, in relation to Albanian citizens involved in the trafficking of hard drugs, inside or outside Albania, or foreign citizens operating in the illegal drug market in Albania.
Based on the experience gained by the State Police and the willingness to cooperate, the General Director of the Police expressed his willingness to contribute to the investigation of criminal drug trafficking networks.
For his part, Brigadier General Jorge Antonio Urquijo Sandoval thanked the General Director of Police for making this meeting possible and agreed with all the issues raised by him.
General Sandoval informed the Director General that he was authorized to discuss all matters of concern to both organizations and that he had information on some Albanian citizens who are resident in Colombia.
At the end of the meeting, both heads of delegations expressed their readiness to exchange contacts of officers of the relevant structures, with the aim of exchanging ideas regarding the draft agreement.
-Within the activities that took place during the Conference of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, in San Diego, California, the General Director of the State Police held important meetings with leaders/representatives of international law enforcement authorities, among which we single out the meeting with the Assistant Secretary of State of the USA, Ambassador Todd Robinson, who simultaneously heads the Office of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), the meeting with the deputy administrator of the DEA, Mr. George Papadopoulos, and the meeting with the director of ICITAP, Mr. Gregory Ducot.
