The court of Elbasan, at the request of the prosecution, has released Saimir Tahir from prison.
The decision was given today by judge Matilda Fetau, who has decided that former interior minister Tahiri will serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.
The former interior minister was sentenced to three years and 4 months in prison for abuse of duty, after the jury accused him for allowing the cultivation of cannabis, while he was interior minister, in 2013- 2017.
He was charged with several charges, such as “Corruption of high-level officials”, “Trafficking of narcotics carried out in cooperation” and “Structured criminal group”, but the court found him guilty only of the charge of abuse of duty.
