The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of Albania, Olta Xhaçka, underlined today that there should be a broad and constructive commitment for Kosovo’s membership in international organizations. Xhaçka hosted his Spanish counterpart, Jose Manuel Albares Bueno, in a meeting, whose visit precedes Spain taking over the EU Presidency in the second half of the year. In the joint press conference after the meeting, Xhaçka informed that part of the discussions was the issue of Kosovo, which takes on special importance, being a fundamental link for the stability and security of the Balkans.
The Albanian chief diplomat said that it is in the best interest of the European Union to have a wider commitment regarding Kosovo’s membership in international organizations. On the other hand, Spanish Minister Jose Manuel Albares Bueno, whose country is in the group of five EU countries that have not recognized Kosovo, did not prefer to dwell too much on the issue of our country.
He briefly mentioned that relations between Kosovo and Serbia were part of the discussion, but promised that Spain will support Albania in the process of joining the European Union.
The Spanish chief diplomat also informed that a meeting at the rank of prime ministers will be organized between Albania and Spain to further strengthen cooperation in various fields. Albania and Spain also signed a memorandum of cooperation to achieve the best possible coordination of work on European integration issues.
