Prime Minister Edi Rama has underlined Tuesday that sports betting revenue will go to the projects and needs of sports federations, the culture sector, and various groups that are interested in cultural projects.
In his speech, PM Rama underlined that there will be a new structure that will supervise this industry and there will be a national board where representatives from the government and the federation will participate and to determine the periodic allocation of funds.
He released this statement during the honoring ceremony of seven Albanian athletes, who have represented the country with dignity in several different disciplines, being declared world and European champions.
“We have seen together with the chairman of the Olympic committee, that today we have, in terms of evaluations for athletes, a financial policy that practically puts our elite athletes in the first European level in terms of financial support.
We are undoubtedly the first in the region, in terms of with many countries having world champions in these disciplines and we want to do this by adding support for the special training period because there is still a gap there. The other is that soon we will finally pass for approval after it enters the public consultation process these days, the law on online betting activities.
It will be an important step to formalize an aspect of this betting activity that, as experience has shown, we have not been able to stop, but no country, including those with great authoritarian control. Instead of remaining an informal activity, it becomes formalized where large international companies have access and there are guarantees for players in all aspects and where according to the law all income will go to sport, culture and technology .
Unlike before, we have defined in the law that they cannot be taken to cover other government needs, but will be focused only here“, underlined the Head of Government.
