schedule 12:04 - 15 Shkurt, 2023

Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Ilirjan Celibashi, spoke about the conditions that political parties must meet in order to receive funds for the electoral campaign, adding that the Parliament will decide how much money the political parties will receive.

In a press conference, he emphasized that this will be determined after the parties have registered for elections and submitted the names of candidates for mayors and members of municipal councils.

When it came to whether the Democratic Party (DP) will be provided with campaign funds, Celibashi revealed that all political entities that took part in the elections of 2015 and 2017 are eligible to get financing.

“We will have to wait for the moment when we have the number of registered parties and those that produce candidates for mayor and members for municipal councils. Whether DP will benefit from funds or not, is actually a decision that must be made, but I am reading the rule and you draw your own conclusion. The party that participated in the previous elections receives funds. PD did not participate in those elections.

Virtually anyone who ran for office in 2015 and 2017 is eligible to receive campaign funds. It is the Assembly that decides how much money will be allocated to political parties. This fund cannot be smaller than ALL 130 million, and this is a matter for the Assembly. Article 180 of the Electoral Code will be respected, and I think it is clear”, stated Celibashi.
