The US ambassador to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, is on an official visit to Albania.
During a meeting with the minister of Olta Xhaçka, the ambassador gave a strong message about the role of women in the world for peace and stability.
Among other things, she asserted that for every case of violence and horror against women and girls in Ukraine during the war, there will be accountability.
“In Ukraine we have seen the horrors of Russian forces against girls and women. The UN has documented hundreds of cases of rape. Russian forces are using this weapon as a means of warfare. There will be accountability.
Any lasting peace requires justice, I try to remind my colleagues that women are not passive victims, but they have identity.
Women in Iran are bravely standing up to a regime for their rights. Iranian women have inspired the world with their courage and strength. Women are dismantling the status quo and driving peace processes forward.
Peace is synonymous with the prevention of aggression. Therefore, we must do everything in our power to advance the peace and security agenda. We urge all nations to follow this example, as Albania is doing. So that women can lead decision-making for peace and security.
