Former MP of the Democratic Party (DP), Gert Bogdani has announced that he will take part in the primaries in order to claim opposition candidate for the municipality of Tirana.
It is announced that Bogdani will present his candidacy for the DP primaries at 11.00. A few days ago, MP Belind Kelliçi also announced his candidacy for the primaries of Tirana. He has stated that he is ready to leave his mandate to fight for Tirana, while he has stated that the current mayor, Erion Veliaj, will be an easy candidate for him to defeat.
Other names mentioned within the DP as possible candidates for the Tirana primaries are the MP Jorida Tabaku, the comedian Julian Deda and the doctor Ilir Alimehmeti. As for other municipalities, the former MP Mimoza Hajdarmataj has announced her candidacy for Tropoja.
Primaries are new competition within DP introduced by new Leader Sali Berisha, in order for the opposition candidates for next elections to be chosen by membership not the chairman.
