At the same time that the lecturers of the University of Tirana went out in protest to demand, among other things, an increase in salaries, Prime Minister Edi Rama responded to them from the Agricultural University.

He has said that lecturers have many opportunities to multiply their salary, however, he accepted a 7% increase, far from their demands.

“To those who go out on the streets and let them know that they are within their rights and who demand a salary increase in the name of all teachers, I tell you that you are not a teacher, neither a high school teacher nor a 9-year-old teacher. You are neither doctors nor nurses in the public health service. You are neither police nor military nor civil servants. You are not even retired, no, no. All of them receive a fixed salary.

Meanwhile, the lecturers are in an intermediate space between the support of the state and the horizon where it is enough to love and you earn your salary double, triple, even four and five times. With other funds, there are self-financing funds, there are European funds, there are also funds of other private universities. But here there is another story, of partially declared salaries.

“We will make a salary increase on Wednesday or Thursday of 7%, but we will recognize the university’s right to increase the salary according to its own decision-making. They are not all the same. The university is autonomous. It develops in an intermediate space between the state and the market”, added the prime minister.
