Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama caused an incident on board the Lufthansa plane during the fourth wave of the corona. According to German media, Der Spiegel, the event took place in December a year ago, when the head of the Albanian government strongly refused to wear a protective mask for the coronavirus.
It all happened before the departure of a plane carrying Prime Minister Rama from Frankfurt am Main to Detroit. Rama insisted on his own, so much so that the cabin crew had to call the captain for help. However, as he was also unable to convince the head of the Albanian government of the general obligation to wear an “FFP2” mask or a surgical mask instead of a cloth mask, Rama was escorted by federal police.

Only after persuading an urgently summoned Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs employee to the Senator’s hall did Rama finally agree to enforce the regulations provided for the corona, like all the other passengers aboard the Lufthansa.
The airline then reassigned him and his ten-member delegation to another flight to the United States. A possible fine for violating the obligation to wear a mask on board was also avoided. Lufthansa chief Carsten Spohr recently mentioned the incident in an interview with Spiegel. Although the airline chief did not mention Rama’s name, he stressed that there was no preferential treatment when it came to requesting a mask – not even a prime minister. At the beginning of the corona crisis, Lufthansa made a mask request that everyone had to comply with.
