The question about the Open Balkans seems to have received less support in the government questionnaire for Albanian citizens, compared to other questions. Out of 500 thousand who participated, 59% of them were in favor.
Asked about this in a press conference, Prime Minister Edi Rama said that this percentage is not small, given the situation, where Russia began the occupation of Ukraine. According to the head of government, the Open Balkans does not protect Serbia’s interests.
“59% is very strong support, despite the fact that for others there is even stronger support. The process happened in that interference I said and the war that Russia started had a psychological impact. I did not wait for the war to find out what Serbia’s foreign policy is.
Secondly, it was neither my decision nor that of this government that Serbia should be in the Balkans. She is there, a neighbor. And it’s a neighbor who will always be there.
Thus, taking into account these two things, the neighborly relations with Serbia are also important for the fact of the difference between us and them,” said Rama.
