On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the Minister of Health and Social Protection Ogerta Manastirliu has invited all MPs to become part of the 16-day campaign against gender-based violence.
Recalling women who lost their lives from domestic violence, Manastirliu said that domestic violence has claimed the lives of 17 citizens this year, 12 of whom are women. The Minister of Health and Social Protection considered an alarm bell to increase the number of denunciations of domestic violence.
“In these 10 months, about 4 thousand denunciations have been referred to the state police for reporting domestic violence. 2965 women and girls have been harmed by domestic violence in these 10 months, among them, 1432 are wives. The increase of denunciations is an alarm bell but it is definitely an indicator of the increased trust in the institutions and this puts us even more in front of the responsibility to increase the reaction power, to prevent any act of violence, any painful event that it may bring.
Our work has not stopped at strengthening the legal instruments, through strengthening the mechanisms for reporting violence in each municipality, improving the legislation that protects abused women, or supporting services in the territory and even empowering and reintegrating girls and women into society. “, said Manastirliu during her speech in the Assembly.
Inviting women to break the silence, Manastirliu said the Ministry of Health and Social Protection is supporting the national counseling line 116117, a line dedicated to counseling for women victims of violence as well as on-site services for women victims of violence.
The Minister of Health and Social Protection said that the 2022 budget will increase support for women victims of violence, tripling the amount of support for women victims of violence and trafficked women.
Today is World Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The international campaign against gender-based violence takes place from 25 November to 10 December. The nationwide slogan in these days of the campaign is: “Make the World Orange: Stop Violence Against Women, Now”./ abcnews.al
