INSTAT has published demographic data regarding the second quarter, which in the first place reflect the big problem we have with the depopulation of entire areas and the gathering of citizens only in Tirana. But, in addition, INSTAT data already confirm the strong blow that the pandemic gave to Albania in relation to the loss of lives during the period October 2020-March 2021.
Number of victims
According to INSTAT, during the second quarter of 2021, 5,777 people have died in Albania.
Although with an increase of 7.7 percent compared to the same period a year ago, these data are close to normal mortality rates for this period of the year. However, the effect of the pandemic must also be considered here, although the strongest blow came later.
During the second quarter of 2020, about 5,400 people died in Albania.

Abcnews.al made a comparison of the data referring to INSTAT statistics. The number of victimes has increase abruptly from 5,421 in the fourth quarter of 2019 to 9,397 in the same period in 2020. This is an increase of 3,976 people during October-December 2020.

The situation is similar in the first quarter of 2021, where according to INSTAT 9 657 people died, while in the same period of 2020 this figure was 6 126, with an increase of 3 531 people.
