Today marks 12 years since the event of January 21, 2011, which is one of the most painful in our country, as 4 protesters were killed on the National Martyrs Boulevard: Aleks Nika, Ziver Veizi, Hekuran Deda and Faik Myrtaj .

Many protesters addressed the prime minister opposing the rules imposed by the government. The country at that time was under the leadership of the former Prime Minister Sali Berisha, the former Minister of the Interior, Lulzim Basha, and the Guard of the Republic from where the shots were fired at the 4 citizens who remained dead was under the command of Ndrea Prendi.

The court assessed that the murders of Ziver Veiz, Faik Myrtaj and Hekuran Dedaj happened due to carelessness and sentenced the former commander of the Guard, Ndrea Prendi to one year in prison, as well as the guard Agim Llupo to 3 years. Ziver Veizi, Faik Myrtaj, Hekuran Deda and Aleks Nika were declared “Martyrs of the Motherland” at the 10th commemoration. Undoubtedly, January 21 is one of the most serious events in Albania, while the families of the victims are asking for nothing but justice, as this event has not been fully clarified and continues to generate debates.
